Nightmare with Hastings

Hello,

This is my first post so i really hope it's in the correct section  !!

First of all, I was in an accident which wasn't my fault and i also had a witness (taxi driver who saw the whole thing). So the whole situation has been a shambles from start to finish, as Hastings sold my details to (what seems like) 50 different companies... "too many cooks..." etc etc.

But the main issue is that i was given a hire car for just over a week while mine was being repaired. After they took the hire car back, a few days later i noticed that £60 had been taken from my account with out any notice or reason as to why.
So i rang Albany Assistance (who were dealing with the claim at this point) and they said it was insurance while i had the hire car, but i assured them that i didn't agree to the £60 insurance... After numerous angry phone calls back and forth i was then informed (weeks later) that it was actually for a parking ticket i had received in Manchester... Albany told me the date and time etc. So i knew it was definitely me. They said that because the car is registered to them, the ticket went directly to them.
I apologized and accepted this... but it obviously would have been nice to receive a letter or some warning that they were going to take money from me.

Anyway... one - two months later, i received a parking ticket in the post for the hire car. It is the same date and time as the ticket i'd already paid through Albany. So i rang them yesterday to confirm that it had actually been paid as i'm receiving letters directly from the "parking police"... Albany then informed me that the £60 they took from my account was an 'admin fee' and that i STILL need to pay the parking ticket, which has now gone from £60 to £100!

ADMIN FOR WHAT!?! WHAT DID THEY DO TO JUSTIFY £60!?!?

My question is, what the ****?? And what can i do about it?? I have until the beginning of July to pay the outstanding parking ticket.

Albany don't seem to be any assistance to you, do they. They've made things up as they go along. But, do you have a copy of their/your correspondence paying the £60 parking ticket to Albany? If so - send a copy of that and maybe your bank statement to the Ticket people to prove you've already paid.

I wouldn't let Albany get away with telling you 3 different reasons. You paid the £60 in agreement for the parking ticket. They accepted that so can't change the terms now.

  • Thank you so much for your reply.
This is what i thought but i wasn't sure as my dad has said that they have me over a barrel!
Considering the accident was through no fault of my own, i feel like i've been made to suffer by these vultures :(

Somewhere (deep) in the rental agreement they will set out how they deal with any parking tickets/fines that later turn up whilst you have been in charge of their car.

Read up on that (you will have agreed to the action they set out).

If they have not acted in accordance with that agreement, then take it from there.
