Gutter help

Hiya

We live in a 2 bed semi and on the back the down pipe is on the neighbours side. For deffo over a year the joint between ours and next doors has been leaking and unfortunately dripping onto our side of the fence. I had someone sort last yr and again this year as it started again and both times had our side cleaned but they both said the neighbours side needs cleaning. It was sealed around feb and has got worse since and is now sometimes like a trickling tap. I put a bucket underneath as I am terrified of damp (the wall its hitting is where ours and next doors kitchens join) although the whole wall isnt getting wet, mainly right at base but fence panel moreso. We wont br able to afford gutter replacement or to have a down pipe but on our side for a few years yet as we are expecting another baby and childcare costs are going to break us. Is there anything else that can be done to sort this joint? Are replacements costly? I worry about cowboys, the last 2 that have been out have seemed offish lol. I cant afford for someone to trash my guttering even more or roof tiles or fascias as I cant afford to replace. Neighbour I dont see often but know she has some issues and not in a position.to.say hey you need your gutter cleaning. Lol.

TIA

I doubt that your neighbours gutter is causing the prob unless the downpipe is blocked, inside your joiner will be two rubber seals (see below it doesn't matter if yours is a diff shape), now either the gutter has moved meaning it's no longer covering the seal, the seal is missing, the clip that holds the gutter to the joiner has broken.

it sounds like you have had a couple of cowboys up there & just put a bit of silicon around the joint, if you can't do it yourself (& it is a diy fix if you have a ladder & a bit of common sense) then try & find a local handyman & he should be able to do it for a min charge

Thanks v.much. out of me and hubby I am the diyer but unfortunately I am 4 months pregnant and we dont have a ladder. Lol. I did enquire and as we dint drive it would cost over £70 for us to hire a ladder. The last person did use a sealant and he said their gutter is so full of crap the water isnt able to run properly down to their end where the down pipe is. I wasnt sure how true this is. I dont know a local handyman and anyone I have asked doesnt know anyone to recommend which is where I have my doubts on where to find someone to trust. Lol. I do know a local plumber who I know through a friend. He fitted a kitchen sink for half price that other people had quoted and he does lots of work at my friends house. I am wondering if to ask if he knows anyone. Lol.

I can clearly see the joint from my bedroom window and literly right on the joint it seems the water is able to just leak through.

The last person that came out was from yell.com and had good reviews and took pics etc so I did trust at the time but shortly after my paranoia kicked in. Lol.

if the gutter was blocked it would be running over the top of the gutter & not just out of the joint,

the only time women & ladders go together is when their stockings have one :D

guttering is & always has been a plumbers job, i only suggested a local handyman because they would normally be cheaper than a plumber (& tbh most plumbers these days can't be bothered to repair guttering), if you have a shared downpipe which you have & it is on their side & their gutter is full of crap preventing the water draining properly then it is their responsibility to get it cleared

Have you spoken to your neighbour about this?

Perhaps they are unaware there is a problem with a build up of debris in their gutter and they will get that sorted if you tell them about it.

Good luck and good luck with your new baby. :)

Edit: I hadn't read Scrgi's post before writing this. The next door gutter and down pipe could be partially blocked allowing a build up of water in your gutter but not enough for it to overflow over the top. But without an on site inspection I am just speculating.

Re ladders, do you know anyone nearby that you could borrow from? I do realise that you are pregnant and should probably not be climbing ladders.

Can you get close enough to the gutter out of an upstairs window and use a mirror to inspect them without falling out?

It may sound slightly odd, but sometimes window cleaners will sort out simple guttering problems. Obviously they already have the ladders, and if it's just a case of a bit of cleaning out and re-sealing then it's no big deal. May be worth asking around ?

Thanks for the advice everyone. I dont see next door often and their partner has recently walked out on them so I think the last thing they need is me banging on about tge guttering. Lol.

I cant get close enough to inspect it thoroughly from the window as they dont open much and I dont know anyone with ladders, I would of already been on their case to lend them :D

Maybe I should ask the plumber if he can do or of he knows someone. At least cant plan on getting sorted before winter hits again. Lol.

Your guys are always helpful. Thank you v.much. :)
