Well you didn't check the Natwest website or did a google search did you as the answer came up straight away!!!
http://www.natwest.com/personal/current-accounts/g4/cheques/clearing.ashxTime is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Rather than trawl through forums it's better (and easier) to go to the source for something like this.

(for future reference ,that took me about ten seconds to find by googling 'nat west cheque clearing').
You should be able to draw against the cheque tomorrow even though it could still be returned.0 -

Your cheque hasn't actually cleared yet

The clearance time is still the same as it was decades ago. You'll find cheques are clearer faster now adays.

At close of business customer can be sure that the Cheque has been cleared0 -
I don't get many cheques nowadays, but I find with Nat West they permit me to withdraw against it after 2 working days. I know other banks are different, Halifax is 4 working days for example.
This however doesn't mean it has "cleared" through the cheque clearance cycle. For example you could withdraw against it on day 3, but it could still come back returned on day 5 causing you to go into possibly an unplanned overdraft. If you are uncertain about the cheque then best advice is to leave it in for 6 working days (a week and day, unless bank hols) to be certain. After 6 working days the cheque is cleared and can only be returned in exceptional circumstances e.g. fraud. This 6 day rule applies to all banks by the way, each bank will have its own policy on if they allow you to draw on it sooner.0 -
Interesting discussion. Yesterday I paid a rather substantial cheque into Natwest from a building society (end of fixed term), and it has appeared online today. The fact that my money came from a building society means I have every confidence of the cheque clearing, but because it is 10 times the amount of my overdraft I hesitate to move it to pastures new (that grow more quickly). I might chance it at 4 days.
