Ebay Advanced listing upgrade fees shocker

I tend to buy a lot on ebay but only sell something very occasionally, say a few times a year. So I'm not an expert seller.

Is it only me, or is the ebay listing program designed to trick you into taking expensive options such as "Advanced listing upgrade fees" that you weren't aware of?

I've just been charged £2.85 twice (2 adverts) over and above the 40p insertion fees for adding 2 photos on a buy it now instead of just 1 photo which would have been free.

My problem is not what ebay charge but the fact that these charges are hidden. The first I heard about these charges was on my invoice.

The transaction confirmation email sent at the time of booking shows the charges at only 40p each. However, the invoice 10 days later shows a total of £6.35 including "Advanced listing upgrade fees" of £5.54. :eek: Obviously, if I had know that they were going to charge me 7x as much I would have made a different decision.

So my problem with ebay is that they don't declare the amount you pay at the point you confirm the transaction.

Surely this is illegal? If not, should be.

Imagine the uproar if it was a low cost airline or bank doing this.

I've asked for these fees to be refunded but I'm not holding my breath. I'll let you know how I get on.

I don't believe the additional charges are hidden.

When you click through to the final stage before a listing is activated, it will tell you quite clearly at the bottom of the page what that particular listing has cost. You then click to confirm you are happy with cost and your item is listed.

Ebay will not return your fee's as you confirmed you are happy to pay

There's a box just above the upload button on an image upload page that adds some kind of extra feature - I've managed to click it by mistake on a couple of occasions and almost be caught out - but I've always notice the charge being clearly displayed and gone back and corrected my error.

They are on the page at the point you confirm. How exactly are you listing?

Inexplicably, there is a difference between charges on categories and if you switch between them it can end up charging you more and it can be a pain to get out of it. When this happened to me it was because I saw the charge was too high that I stopped and deleted the listing.
