Jelly~That is an awesome amount for food for the month. Totally respect.

It used to be a lot more, but I took a decision at the start of the year to get back into cooking my own food (I used to, years ago, and then slowly got out of the habit and more into buying prepared foodstuffs). So the savings have been made on batch cooking (usually at weekends) to eat and freeze the rest, and making sure I take sandwiches or whatever to work for lunch.

In fact I'm pretty much making everything from scratch myself now - bread (well, the breadmaker helps), pizza (dough and sauces), chilli sauce ... you name it, I'll have a go at it. I've just got a pasta maker (cheap off fleabay) so I'll be having a go at making my own pasta at the weekend.:)

Taking sandwiches to work makes a hell of a saving, too - so for anyone who regularly buys their lunch, that's where money can be saved. In fact, I had to buy lunch one day this month - sandwich, crisps, drink - and had forgotten how much it cost. The money I spent on lunch just that day makes up around 10% of my total food spends for the month.

Yesterday was NSD 18. Went fishing and caught my very first ( probably my only ) carp! Really chuffed. :j

Today is my DGS's 16th birthday. Unfortunately the rotten weather spoilt his hopes of a BBQ with his friends. He had a good day though.

    Good luck in August everyone.
