Hi,

Just about to have a new boiler installed, currently in the new baby's bedroom and consequently will be moving directly upwards into the loft.

Question is which of these boilers is most suitable/recommended?

I had also been quote on some other boilers (listed below) but through advice/internet had ruled these out..

Ideal Logic+ HE30
Worchester Bosch Greenstar 29 Cdi
Vaillant Eco Pro 28

Thanks
Steve

My Worscester CDi has been up in the loft for a few years now, I'm sure any of those will do the job. Make sure your pipes are lagged where they run through the loft, and I'd recommend you run the condensate within the house as far as you possibly can. My condensate pipe exits the house about half way down, and I fell foul of the freezing issue on the outside run (despite the pipe being 44mm diameter and a vertical drop) during the very bad winter a couple of years ago.

Thanks, i have read about the heated condensate pipe (traceheat?)- ~£50-£100, given that we have open fields at the back of the house i am thinking this may be a sensible investment as it can blow a bit of a chill in the winter..

I installed one on my Greenstar (it will work with any make).

I had a frozen condensate pipe a few years ago - but no problems after installing this.

It is an easy DIY job for any who want to retro fit.

installing boilers in the loft is a PITA, during the winter it will be running even when you don't want it to (frost protection) wasting gas, you need a fixed light, a walkway from the loft hatch to the boiler position, you don't know if the system pressure has dropped, if you want to alter anything out comes the steps again,

are you sure it can't go back in the same place ?
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Agree with SCG avoid the loft if you can - being able to tweak controls throughout the year is useful - but bedrooms aren't ideal as, despite the 831 being a good choice it isn't silent when operating.

Unfortunately not.. New baby is going the study which previously housed the boiler. So only other place available is loft space.. Is there one over the other that you would recommend?

    Hi.

I have read elsewhere that a separate filling loop and pressure indicator can be fitted inside the house, to allow regular maintenance on the boiler without the need to go in and out of the loft.

Just wondered if you could indicate what the likely cost of this would be?

    Thanks

I have seen plenty of Logic 30 boilers been fitted recently the main draw is price + 7yr guarantee.

I had a worcester 28i in the loft had issue with condensate pipe back in 2009 lagged pipe and surrounded boiler (boxed in), with 100mm kingspan to keep it from frost. It has the eco buttom which will stop it fireing in the night (make it quieter).
