Aldenham Country Park

Not strictly a saving but at only £4.00 per car (That's 8 of us including Muffin the dog) Aldenham County Park is excellent value for money.

There is a large lake with a wooded walk round it (up to an hour if you trundle with the kids) and all the usual ducks etc.

Large adventure playground for the kids with safe bark chipping base.

100 aker wood (sic) walk with pooh stick bridge, and very nicely made "houses" for all the Winnie The Pooh characters (Pooh was in bed asleep and Christopher Robin was out but we posted a note through his letter box)

There is also a small "Farm" with Rabbits, Pigs, Goats, Cows, Sheep, Chickens et al - they let dog on leads in here too so Muffin was pleased.

There are also plenty of picnic benches and a shop selling Ice Cream and coffee etc (£8 for 7 ice creams and a coffee - yes Muffin enjoyed her Ice Cream) as well as a clean toilet block.

All this for just £4.00!

PS - I don't work for them - I am a foster carer looking for cheap ways of entertaining 5 kids and a Dog

Yes, its nice there. I did notice some kind of yearly parking concession for blue badge holders on the exit. As soon as I check it out, I will post on this thread. Its very nice there.

Other nice fairly local parks are St Albans Park and Cassiobury Park in Watford.

  • It's a great place to spend time, especially when the weather is good. Great tip for you money conscious out there..... park on the roadside just outside the exit gate and parking is FREE!!
  • Yes a great place especially for young children who are into Pooh. It's quite a long way for them to walk round the whole Pooh bit but they're quite happy to do so. I just wish that sometimes they'd have Pooh characters dressed up cos my son got very upset at age 3-4 that Pooh etc were always out when he visited.
