Hi. Does anyone know if there is a number to call BT from an old BT line to get reconnected to them.
I plugged the phone into my old BT line and there is still a dialling tone.

Dial 17070 and write down the number the "This circuit is defined as ......." automated voice tells you.

Then phone 0800 100 77 22 and ask to be reconnected (I know the line's already connected but that'll be better that risking using the line and then getting a seriously big bill at some time in the future).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Oh, what's that 17070 number?

Btw, when i press 0 as the first number on the phone it says 'this number is not recognised'. But i'm assuming that i can call some other number (for example you can call Virgin from a VM line on 151) but won't be recognised when using other phone companies.

I tried that 07 number and it gave me 5 options for BT line test facilities.
Oh, just to make things clear, i no longer have another land line, so i can't call an 0800 number.

    Try 150 then.

If that doesn't work, dial that 0800 number from a phone box - quote the number 17070 gave you.

Hey, you know the number quoted to me? Is that supposed to be my 'new phone' number? As it's different to my 'current one' (which is the one i was also originally on with BT a few years back)?

The number quoted in the automated announcement is the number currently associated with the line.

Are there any charges for porting your old number back, and/or taking the new one?
