Rbs 26 month 0% decline?

in Credit cards
Hi guys,
Over the past few days i have cleared off a lot of debt, paid off a loan in full and paid off a credit card in full leaving a low balance on a third card. In order to get this cleaned up I decided to apply for an RBS 26 month 0% card, I have never been bad with credit (never miss payments, all payments up to date, banks willing to offer me high limits usually £8k+).
I just attempted to apply and got rejected on the spot, I am unsure to why this would be? possibly it will take a few weeks/months to update debt recently paid off on file? are rbs strict with applications on such good offers?
I am fairly annoyed by this as I do not want a rejected application to effect my credit score.
Any help would be appreciated.
Kind regards

rejected applications don't affect score, it's the credit search (pass or fail) that does. maybe you had too much debt, maybe the bank decided not to accept anyone's applications that day because Stephen Hester's left leg fell off... with credit applications you can never really tell.
Give your file a few months to clear up a bit and try again?Oh, you wee bazza!0 -
Try again in about 6 months hopefully should be far more succesful0

It'll take months rather than weeks for your credit file to update especially if you only reduced your debts a few days ago.
I'd say 2 months for the loan to be cleared up.
Check your £2 statutory report before you apply next time to make sure everything is in order with your credit file.0
