I think 2 years is a fairly reasonable time frame for a £130 television to last. Anything less would be a bit dodgy but 2 years for a cheap TV is probably in line with legal expectations.

I'd take the £20 gift card and consider yourself lucky. It's effectively a 10-20% refund and it looks like you've had 80-90% use of the cheap TV.

Google the make and model number, my mum had similar issues with a Technica TV, it was 2 years old too. It was a known problem that Tesco tried to deny all knowledge of, until we showed them the evidence otherwise. She got a generous discount on a Sony TV from them instead!

Have you had any other issues with freeview in your house? There's issues with freeview if 4G is installed in your area, so it may be the signal and not the TV.

Technically you are not bound to accept a gift card and could insist on being refunded via your original payment method, but Tesco would be within their rights to refuse to do anything until *you* provide evidence that the fault was inherent. It may be best to cut your losses....

Edit: If this is a known fault as Sagaris said that changes things. It may be worth telling Tesco and seeing what they do

Do you know if the TV is otherwise ok?

If it's just the internal tuner failing (probably due to bad caps) you could buy an external Freeview box and use that. Hook up an external DVD player, games console or similar to test.

I'd expect a TV to last at least/around 4 years at that price, so £20 seems a little low...

Saying that, TVs have come down in price over that time period, so I wouldn't expect 50% back.

I'd settle for perhaps £40 or £50, which would be fair.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
