Work Objectives

(I did a search, but couldn't really find anything.)
Do work objectives have to be the same for everyone who is in the same job role and getting the same salary? Particularly when it comes to meeting targets?
Off the top of my head I think that they do, but I just want to double check. The only difference between the employees is that they all work at different offices, but all have the same jobs.

No a company can make you do more or less than the person doing the same job at the same £ sitting next to you. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

By objective I take that to mean the final outcome of the worker's effort. They can have different targets but if their job is telephone sales then they all have the same objective, to sell. Their targets could be different though based on area/product.

As above, for example it maybe a reasonable adjustment for someone who is covered under the equality act to have a lower target than someone who isn't.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

By objective, I mean the kind that are 'SMART' (urgh!). The things that are used to measure how well you are doing your job.
So currently I have something along the lines of (paraphrased, obviously):
1. Hit x target daily
2. Conduct progress reports on a weekly basis
3. Monthly staff meetings conducted and recorded
So all the employees currently have the same objectives. My question is can that target be made different for each employee? So one person has a target of ten and one a target of fifteen.
To me, it seems unfair on the person who is being expected to hit the higher target, whilst still having all the same background work to do. Especially if and when the issue of disciplinaries come into it. Of course everyone is different and has different skills and strengths, but they are all being employed to do the same job.
All the employees are otherwise equal, there is no issue of equalities, other than potentially being asked for more results than another. They were also all taken on at the same time.0 -

There is no law that says anything has to be fair.0

Yes its the same as all doing the same yet one person is expected to take half of the work of the boss to do it and get no extra pay or anything
Yeah, tell me about it!There is no law that says anything has to be fair.
Of course not. But a cohesive working environment is normally achieved by something approaching fairness and/or equality. We are not a target-based organisation, at all, it's just currently the main focus.
I'm going to propose (and I think my co-workers will agree with me) that there is an informal agreement whereby some are expected to reach a higher target than others, but a formalised minimum target for everyone.0
