Im in the process of buying a house and will be fitting a new kitchen. We like the shaker style with oak worktops and a belfast sink- fairly typical of what people seem to be going for at the moment!
I am waiting for my carpenter to give me some prices for Howdens units- the choice it between the Greenwich shaker and the Burford Shaker.
I was lucky enough today to be given the trade price list for the units and have seen that the Greenwich range is about 1/3 cheaper than the Burford although the cupboard doors are lighter/thinner. Maybe not quite as nice but a hefty saving.
What was interesting is the high prices of the worktops and appliances from Howdens. A 3M length of oak worktop is £511 with discount there! The belfast sinks are £257.
Im going to source my worktops/sink/taps elsewhere to save some money, anyone have any suggestions of good quality, good value retailers to look at?

Worktops direct and worktops express were recommended to me - Howdens matched their price.
B and Q trade price cabinets came out less than Howdens (and they now do ready built carcasses for trade).
I got a nice kitchen tap really cheap on ebay.0 -

I would second Worktop Express, excellent quality, very good prices and their customer service is awesome! I paid about £250 for a 3m and a 2m solid oak worktop for my kitchen refit.
Try ebay for new built in appliances, I sourced a Neff built in oven (brand new and packaged) for £200. We looked around showrooms to find the appliances we wanted, then found them cheaper online.

You need to get another cheaper comparative quote and go back to howdens they will do you a better deal my first quote from howdens was stupid then they matched and did a much better deal £4,500 cheaper than the first ! Received my kitchen last week. You should be looking to get at least 70% off list price for everything some of mine were 80% and there doing a good deal on cooker hob and extractor at moment from £1890

Many thanks everyone for your helpful replies
I have been doing some digging and worktop express caught my eye for the worktop. I ordered a couple of samples which came today- their cheapest oak worktop is lovely! Will do the job perfectly and great value! £145 for a 3m length!
Just the sink to source now, will keep an eye on ebay for this and any other appliances I can find!0 -
