Vauxhall Diagnostics

Hi all!
Problem:
Cylinder 1 misfire on my Astra Sri 1.8 petrol. I plugged in a code reader and deleted the codes to put out the EML. Only appears to misfire when under load. Also appears to stop misfiring when engine has warmed up. A friend of mine said he had a similar fault with a corsa and traced the fault to be the lambda sensor. Any suggestions. Cheers

You'll have to put up more info., an O2 sensor going out of range would give other codes than this. You could just as easily have a bad plug/coil/cts.

What were the codes? How do you expect sensible opinions when you don't even give us a clue?

Easy Rambo! If I knew the code I would've stated it. The reader just said cylinder 1 misfire.

I would expect it to be the coil pack starting to fail. The problem will probably come back

That's impressive 'Rambo' - 17 minutes after posting you had a fault with your car you've been for a 'run' (end of the driveway and back?) and it's fixed!

I'm sure we'll all sleep soundly tonight now, thanks :D
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!
  • misfire cyl 1.

probable causes on the vx 1.8.

    injection manifold gasket leak.

cam position sensor failure or failing (engine in retard timing mode).

injector pulse incorrect timing, clean out injectors with an addative.

    incorrect spark plug gap.

    failing spark plug.

    sealed coil pack faulty.

    headgasket failure.

    Agreed with the above, but...

Misfire under load generally (not always) says ignition problem (not a good enough spark), rather than fuelling. whip the plugs out and see if there's a difference in colour between it and the rest, post back with your findings.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

  • I changed coil pack and 4 plugs today and it seems to have worked. Thanks for the advice guys.
