Amazon - just wondered...........

When Amazon agree to replace a broken electrical item that is past the 12 month warranty period, why do they want the old one returned to them?

I just wondered what they do with it - can they get any recompense from the manufacturer, or do they just dispose of it?

Or is it to prove that the item is indeed broken and you are not trying to pull a fast one?

Because you paid for one item, you shouldn't get to have two?

They could repair and sell as recon, or as you say likely send back to manufacturer for some recompense.
