Hello

I almost wrote I'm looking for 'chemical free' make up, but of course, everything is made from chemicals (even fresh air) but I think you will get my meaning :)

So far I have found the following brands....
  • Lily Lolo
  • Beauty Without Cruelty
  • Green People
  • Inika
  • Lavera
  • Nvey
  • Juice Beauty
  • Studio 78
  • Elemental Beauty
  • Everyday Minerals
  • Vapour Organic Beauty
  • 100% Pure
  • Madara Eco Cosmetics
  • S.W. Basics of Brooklyn
  • B M Beauty
Can you help to add to this list, and do you have any recommendations please?
(I have purchased some gorgeous Lily Lolo and Inika eyeshadows so far :D)

  • I've just swapped from Lily Lolo to Elemental Beauty and I think they're 'natural' stuff!

The Organic Pharmacy does a uber luxe range. Or if you want to save money on mineral make up buying from Everday Minerals from the US is good, even after the p&p. (To offset the carbon footprint switch to Ecotricity or Good Energy for your home utilities!). Lastly to add to the above really good list I'd add Vapour Organic (really nice range) plus Sante and Alva.
    HTH!
Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!

I haven't looked into them too much but KORRES have some nice things make up and beauty but I'm not sure how 'free' they are. I know they are supposed to be natural

Cocktail Cosmetics stock cruelty free brands, it might be worth a look on their site too :)

    Hi

I can't add 'Sante' as the first item I checked, 'Eyeshadow Trio No. 1 Rose' contains Lauryl Lactate, Talc, and Tocopheryl Acetate which score 3 and 4 on EWG's Skin Deep Cosmetic Database. I also can't add 'The Organic Pharmacy' to the list for similar reasons.
Sadly 'Alva' came out the worst, with the first item I looked at having ingredients that score up to 5 out of 10 on EWG's toxicity rating. :(

I am adding 'Everyday Minerals' and 'Vapour Organic Beauty' though as they do not use any harmful substances in their cosmetics from what I can see. :-)

    Many thanks

They looked promising, but unfortunately they do have nasties in their products :(

Just as an example: Wild Rose Oil Foundation Spf 15 / 1,01Fl. Oz. 30mls
(I have bolded the high to moderate rated nasties, and ignored low hazard ratings)

    Ingredients:

Aqua/Water, Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Titanium Dioxide, Isohexadecane, Mica, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Glycerin, Sorbitan Isostearate, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Cyclohexasiloxane, Alumina, Caprylyl Dimethicone Ethoxy Glucoside, Aluminum/ Magnesium Hydroxide Stearate, Silica Silylate, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Chlorphenesin, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Zinc Stearate, Parfum/Fragrance, Fructose, Glucose, Mannitol, PCA Dimethicone, Sorbitol, Polyperfluoroethoxymethoxy Difluoroethyl PEG Phosphate, Urea, Dextrin, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Sucrose, Tocopherol, Sodium PCA, Retinyl Palmitate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Trehalose, Alanine, Aspartic Acid, Glutamic Acid, Triacetin, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Benzoic Acid, Polyquaternium-51, Sodium Hyaluronate. [+/- (May Contain) CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491 (Iron Oxides), CI 77492 (Iron Oxides), CI 77499 (Iron Oxides)].

Sadly, many cosmetics with sunscreens in have some of the worst ingredients, and it's the case with this product (including ones with Vitamin A which isn't as good as you think when applied topically)

The toxicity ratings I have mentioned cover chemical ingredients which are known to bring about many end results, from low to high concern, including:

    Allergies/immunotoxicity
    Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs)
    Ecotoxicology
    Mutations
    Biochemical or cellular level changes
    Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive)
    Neurotoxicity
    Endocrine disruption
    Developmental/reproductive toxicity
    Cancer

For anyone that wants to check the safety of any product ingredients for themselves and their family (eg lipstick, toothpaste, hair dye, baby lotion, shower gel etc etc) I can recommend using these free to use checking tools:

So, back to cosmetics / make up! ;)
Please do let me know your brands / experiences as I'm on the look out for some new products (I like highly pigmented bright colours if possible) :)
