Halifax mortgage protection

Hi all. I need help. I took out a mortgage as a naive first time buyer 6 years ago and was sold mortgage protection to cover payments if I'm sick or unemployed etc. as I get paid in full no matter how long I am off work it seems I do not need it and want to know if this is PPI. I wrote to halifax asking for refund and got fobbed off with a long winded confusing letter. I am still paying this as I'm unsure if I have to have it or not and don't want to risk making my family homeless. Please help!!!

You take out insurance to prevent things like that. So, why you are complaining?

You wouldn't be fobbed off. You would be told clearly why they disagreed with you on the reasons you gave.

You say you are paid no matter how long you are off work. There is no such employer. Can you tell us how much you are really paid if you are off work.

it is also worth noting that the FOS recently rejected a complaint for someone with 6 months full pay, 6 months half pay on mortgages given the long term nature of a mortgage and the more significant issues, such as ending up homeless, if you fail to pay the mortgage. (unlike loan or credit card PPI where such complaints are usually upheld).

The OP hasn't actually stated he is/was in the military, but the fact that the Bank have already rejected his complaint would indicate that his reasons failed to convince them.
He can refer his complaint to FOS.

if the OP was military that would result in them upholding his complaint. as it was not i doubt he was
  • I am in the armed forces. Sorry should of stated that in the first post. I get paid in full whether sick or injured for as long as it takes. I have also completed enough time in the forces that qualifies me for a full pension with immediate effect should I have to leave. Does that help in anyway. To be totally honest I don't even know if I have to have this protection and didn't know what it was when I took it out. I thought it was for house insurance.

Yes, in that case you didn't need income protection.

Yes, as above, it's a good enough reason to refer your case to FOS.
