Icici bank on MSE, should I be worried?

Options
Hello, new member here, I'm on other various forums across the web but first time here.

I've followed MSE for a while and it's got some great deals. Recently I applied for the Icici savings account as listed here in the savings section on MSE.

The trouble is, I gave them all my bank details *last week* and still have heard hide-nor-hair from them. Fortunately they've taken no money (I decided to start off with £1 to open to tread carefully, and they have not even taken that; I plan to put £3000 with them.) Has anyone else tried opening an account with them? Should I give them up for dead and try elsewhere? Should I take some action to make sure my personal account is safe?

Thanks for the help!

All the best Andrew.

Have you tried to phone them and inquire?
  • Ah!! Well... good idea and the initial problem seems solved...
They tell me that my details have been lost in their system and I need to apply again :/ Fingers crossed I suppose!

I've had several accounts with ICICI in the past when their rates were competitive.

Never had any problems, though I seem to remember their website wasn't the most user friendly. Customer service were polite and helpful, without being pushy. No complaints from me :)

    I would echo badger09's experience.

I have some accounts with the UK arm of another Indian bank and the account opening process was quaint to say the least.

Can't fault the staff or the bank they were charming.

I've been trying to open an account with them as well, they sent me a phone number to ring which I did on the 24th June & they said my direct debit will go through in a couple of days & then I could access my account. I've heard nothing from them since & that was 10 days ago now. Just sent them an email. Is this usual??

Lost in their system - but they acknowledge thay received it?
    Or lost in the post?

I am sceptical about what a crook can do with JUST your bank details and address.

But if it had proof of identity stuff with it, I'd seek advice from my bank.
  • I opened an account with them on 19th June and it took until 2nd July for the direct debit to get through to my new Icici account - that's 13 days to action (9 working days) even though the money was ready to transfer immediately! It took a further 3 days before I received an email showing my user id which you need to access the account online. Lost a significant amount of interest in the time it took for them to action the direct debit.

So far, my experiences with them (as per my recent post on the matter) have been somewhat negative.

This bank is appalling at Customer Service!

I have endeavoured to open an account and operate it but have been mired in password problems (not accepted) Unique Reference Numbers (nowhere to enter them) account numbers that cannot be cut and pasted into the relevant fields and phone operators who pass you around from one to the other while they cash in on the cost of the call.

I don't care what rate they are offering - DO NOT GO THERE!
