Claiming PPI taken out before 2005

I have been turned down on my claim with Amex by the FOS because the policy was taken out in 1998. Is there any other way of claiming? I know they changed underwriters from London & Edinburgh to ACE and Cigna.

You wouldn't have been turned down solely on the date of the policy. What reason did they give?

The FOS can only consider pre-regulation complaints if the firm was regulated or a member of a previous recognised body. If they were not, then the FOS cannot get involved.

I've just been successful in a claim which dates back to 1998, so as above, must be more to it

depends if the company was a member of an earlier body or not. Banks, for example, have to consider pre-regulation complaints. Most brokers dont.

Yes it was turned down because at the time I took it out Amex weren't regulated. I tried the FLA and they were very nice, but also couldn't help. Its very aggravating because I have paid from 1998 till last month, when I cancelled. Also I have paid for ten years when I retired and wasn't covered, but I didn't know.
