More Capital One Muppetry!

My wife recently got a Capital One card, originally asking for the 18 month offer, got a 6 month one instead with a £2500 limit. When she returned the credit agreement she filled in a balance transfer form for £5000 (limit wasnt stipulated at the time)

When she activated the card 10 days ago she asked about this, guy toold her it was in hand and would get a letter in 2 days. Today, annoyed at not hearing anything she called again, only to be told that there was no note of any transfer request.Whilst she was on she said that the original request was for £5000, could she get a limit increase to cover this. She was told to phone back in an hour and they would let her know.

2 hours later she calls back, nothing had been decided, indeed, they had passed on her details to an agency for a credit check, call back tomorrow and find out what happened! Now, 2 things here-

Why should she have to get a credit check done 2 weeks after getting a card activated?

They are chancing it a bit with the BT, we have lost nearly 3 weeks of the 6 month period already, even if they authorised the transfer tomorrow, that would be the best part of a month lost.

I have told her to call again tomorrow and tell them to stick the card, but now thats 2 searches against her name now for a measly 6 month card!!!

  • I had a helluva to-do with CapOne in November - they transcribed my address wrongly (resulting in a non-existent address!) and then offered me a card with a limit of £250 (yes, two hundred and fifty pounds) at 29.9% apr - not exactly the 18-month 0% I had applied for. After a few weeks of phone calls, emails and letters I gave up and took out a Lloyds TSB 0% for a year card for my BT.

Incidentally, I also transferred a smallish additional mortgage (around £6k) from my building society, where I was paying their base rate of 5.99%, to a Mint card with fixed rate for life of balance of 3.9%, saving myself a fair bit of interest
  • I think I'm going to get a t-shirt made up that says

....I applied for the 18 months interest free

....and all I got was a lousy £600 credit limit for 6 months!
    Bank Charges Claimed: 180

    Debenhams card: 600 now paid
    Littlewoods: 100 now paid

Exact same thing happened to Mr JMU-95 (He did get the 18 month offer) I got fed up waiting for the BT to show up. So, a few days ago I filled in the online Balance Transfer form on Cap1's website. Logged on today and it seems to have gone through ok. I'll have to check my Egg a/c in a few days. Still - very shoddy service on their part! Not Impressed at all.

Well,my wife called AGAIN this morning, asked firstly about the credit limit increase.....they asked her to send in her last 3 months payslips, she said no , I don't see why I need to.

Us- Ok, how about the balance transfer?
Them-We will need to take the details from you again.
Us- How long will that take to process?
    Them -Oh, around 2 weeks!
Us - But then that means that we will have lost around 6 weeks of the 6 month 0% period?
Them - I am not sure what you mean!!!????!!!!????!!??

At this point, prompted by me my wife told them to stick the card where there is limited solar activity and hung up!!!! I have dealt with many other companies on the phone but this lot are the worst by a mile.

2 credit searches and countless time of the phone for nothing! Presumably there is nothing we can do to get those searches erased now?

Because you were asking for a credit increase perhaps? How many other cards might she have applied for in two weeks?

That card was the first card or indeed any other form of credit she has applied for in 2 years.

Its funny that Virgin were able to do a balance transfer and increase my limit on the phone in 5 minutes without the need for credit checks etc.
  • whose got a tesco card ?? sent off signed docs nearly 2 weeks ago, heard nowt. Why accept me then not send the card or are they usually this slow?
