Helsinki...for a city break?

Now I know you wouldn't expect to see the name 'Helsinki' on a 'Money Saving Expert' forum but I am thinking of Helsinki as a destination for a long weekend to celebrate a wedding anniversary milestone.

Has anyone been and is it recommended.

FYI a weekend with flights and decent hotel only works out marginally more expensive than say Berlin.

If you don't enjoy a tipple, then perhaps yes.

Helsinki is a great city for a break, can be quite pricy and the Finns are a tad odd/mad but great none the less.

If you do go do try Salmiaaki their local hooch it opens up new worlds!

Edit: Whatever you do dont try and match a Finn drink for drink, it never works well, we had to carry my boss out of a bar after he decided he could dunk the Finnish CEO under the table

There's not masses to do but a weekend away would be fine. Can easily be combined with Talinn, plentiful cheap ferries.
One recommendation is the island fortress of Suomenlinna, a short ferry from the city centre.

Helsinki is great for a weekend, one of the best we have ever done. In comparison to other Scandic countries, we didn't find it expensive, we had a bottle of wine every night with our Italian food, reindeer just wasn't an option for either of us. We loved the zoo, on an island in the harbour and took the day trip to Tallinn which I wouldn't do again, the Finns do it for cheap booze and cigs
