Halifax success in part but need advice

Hi, I've just received an offer for Ppi refund on two loans from the Halifax in 1999 & 2004, they have part upheld both loans saying that although they couldn't find any failings on the way I was sold the Ppi the fact they are single premium policies and was not suitable for my needs so they have offered a part refund and saying that a standard policy would have been bought by me if they had offered me. I would like to ask for advice on one point I picked up on when the Halifax rang me a few weeks ago to discuss my claim, the lady said the policies although joint loans only covered me on the 1999 loan and my husband on the 2004 loan which I never knew but maybe that's my fault for not reading the small print correctly, should I accept or ring up and mention the joint loan but only one covered. Also my main reason for complaint was that both my husband and I work for the council at the time and would get full pay for six months and half pay for six months plus my husband was in receipt of his British gas pension. Thanks in advance for any help.

If you are not happy with what the Bank are offering you, then your only option is to refer it to FOS. The Bank are only upholding the single premium aspect of your complaint, so you've received a rejection on the other reasons you gave.
If you do go to the Ombudsman, expect a long wait of up to eighteen months.

Ok thanks, that's what I thought but letter states if not happy to accept I should ring up or send a letter with any new evidence otherwise the cheque will be sent out in 28 days, I should have stated my point more clearly I was asking if the fact that its a joint loan but only one of us covered could that be used as new evidence or is that just a complaint reason I could have used.

It's hardly "new evidence" to support your original complaint.
When the Bank invites complainants to respond if they have "new evidence" they are merely paying lip service and any further correspondence you send will normally just delay (for months) an inevitable FOS referral.

thanks for your reply, think I will just take the offer, Don't fancy hanging around for months waiting on the FOS. Out of nine loans/credit cards I have had 8 upheld and just this one part upheld, so all in all not bad for a few stamps/phone calls.. That's me done! Thanks again to all that helped me.
