life insurance for mother

hi,
my mother is 82 and i hope we will have her for many years to come but i have begun to think about paying for her funeral if she passes away. any advice on what is the best insurance to take out would be appreciated. also is there any way to check if she already has life insurance, she gets a little confused sometimes so not really sure if she has it or not, cant find any documents to confirm one way or the other.
thanks
Bill

Check bank statements for regular payments to a life assurer.

I think the cost of a current basic funeral is about £3500. It is whether some form of plan of which there are many, is a better option, than a Coop prepayment plan. With the life assurance plans that cover funeral costs, they provide cover for a specific amount, but if your Mum lives to 100, this may not be enough. With the Coop type plan, you start to pay £x per month and it covers the type of arrangement that you want, even if the funeral costs increase. In my experience Coop funeral services were a lot better than some of the other companies I have seen. Coop are of a size that makes them a lot cheaper, they can provide more of a service and they don't appear to try to rip people off, which I have seen with some local companies.
