I have a million photos of my lovely old cat. Almost all of them have his eyes glossed out, not really red eye, more just shiny. Canon's software doesn't remove that. They are otherwise good photos. What software should I get that would correct this problem please?

If you just need to correct eyes, I wouldn't bother downloading a fully blown graphic application like "The Gimp" (on top of the fact that GTK for Windows is rather crap, and that the multiple windows GUI is counter intuitive compared to standard Windows MDI interfaces, unless you use PhotoGimp). Many picture viewing software include or support filters such as red eyes filters.
So I'd just download XnView and see if it can fix those:

Thanks, but is that just the first one ie
XnView (v1.91/1.70) is an efficient multimedia viewer, browser and converter....
or the whole lot? It is just eyes but not just red eye like I say. Some have gone reflective blue from flash or just extra terrestrial looking. Poor cat, not good.0 -
Have a trial of ACDSee Photo Manager; http://www.acdsee.com/products/acdsee/index
Check your private messages for installation instructions.0 -
XnView is one single program.
When you say "or the whole lot", I'm nt sure what you mean. If there are two packages, one small and one big, get the big one, it's more likely to have some kind of plugin to correct eyes.
Although it's called "red eye", the colour probably doesn't matter for the software. You'll probably need to point out where the eyes are for the software to do it's job. If that's the case, the colour probably doesn't matter.
Sorry, I'm speculating because I never use the red eye thingy, I always set my camera to anti-red eye whenever I take a pic of people!
ACDSee is indeed very good, but it's not free.0 -
I have Picasa (the free one from Google), and have eliminated shiny/red eyes from many photos.
You could give it a try, after all, if you don't like it you can always uninstall it later.Being brave is going after your dreams head on0 -
Oh, good idea from ScarletBea. I think Picasa does the red eye thing. I don't use it because it's not powerful enough for my tastes, but it's a nice simple proggie which might be perfect for you.0

Or try FastStone Image Viewer, its like Picasa but better :j0 -
I must admit I shelled out for Photoshop.
Not cheap, but very good for things like correcting eye-shine/redeye.
Not really intuitive, but it gives you the option of choosing the colour (from memory) eyes need to be when finished.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
Have you thought about giving your cat an eye-transplant?0
