Refused Insurance - Not checking the online form properly

I was looking for advice on a situation I have managed to get myself into and send a warning for others.

Last year I received my house and contents insurance renewal. I didn't like the jump in premium so had a scout about for alternatives. I logged into moneysupermarket.com but unfortunately for me (with hindsight) my pc had saved the log in. Thinking this was great that I didn't have to fill in the forms again I hit search and found some good alternative, cheaper deals. I selected one from Aviva and applied.

A few days later I received a mail from Aviva saying they had refused my application. I phoned them up to find out why. Long story short I found out I had made a big boo boo.

You see the last time I had searched using moneysupermarket.com was a couple of years earlier. I hadn't checked through the form when I logged back in to search so hadn't added in a claim I had made in between the 2 times I had used the site.

Now I understand that there are disclaimers saying 'are you sure everything is correct and true' before you submit/apply and I accept that it is my mistake/fault.

The upshot of this though is I now have great difficulty in getting insurance and have to pay a premium for it.

What I really want to know is this there any 'prescription' on this? Do I have this problem for life? When I phone insurance companies they are all very understanding but still won't insure me. I have to go through brokers.

Having never missed a payment, falsely claimed, broken the law I was wondering if there are any options available?

As a warning to others though CHECK what you have input in these online forms. It's too easy to just tick boxes and claim you have read the 'rules and regulations'.

I happened to do it on a Sunday morning, tired with the kids running around and am paying the price.

Insurers usually do ask if you have "ever" had this, so it is for life.

See if a local broker (not swinton) can help with an insurer sympathetic to clients with bad history.

The only real option to cure the problem is to appeal to Aviva's goowill to reinstate the policy and accept it was an honest mistake not fraud and obviously pay an admin fee and additional premium for adding the historic claim.

If they refuse then your stuck in the sub prime space, not only for Home but for most your other personal line GI products
