Cancelled Car insurance and sent bill

Hi
I am currently traveling and as a result I no longer need my car insurance. In an effort to keep costs down I went on to the website of my provider (Admiral) and used their website to cancel my policy. I did this at the time of my renewal notice and therefore in plenty of time.
It has since come to my attention that they have written to me stating that if I do not make payment for the renewal notice my policy with be cancelled and a bill sent for the cover so far.
I have actually sold the car and no longer own the vehicle in question, this was done before I took action to cancel the policy, therefore effectively insuring a car that I do not own.
I have written to Admiral and I am currently awaiting a reply. I was just wondering if anyone else had any further advice on my rights/action I can be taking in the mean time.
Thanks in advance.

Did you not get an email after using the Admiral online service to stop the renewal ? I would have thought that you would receive an email confirmation.
I suspect that without such an email Admiral will say how their systems normally work, when you cancel online. That they cannot trace any cancellation request etc etc. Therefore they will need proof the car was sold, so they can backdate the cancelllation. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Admiral are famous for turning what was an annual policy into a rolling commitment.
You need a copy of the email you sent to prove you did indeed cancel, as without them confirming it, you can still be held liable.0 -
any proof email received?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
