Santander

I opened up a Santander account just before I went onto a DMP. This has been open for 2 years now and have tried on a few occasions to get an overdraft which failed every time.

I tried just and got accepted for £500.

I have a score of 483 on experian (not relevant I know) and have 5 defaults still on my report.

What could be the reason I have now been accepted for a £50 overdraft? It's no big deal but just wondering the reasons why. Could this be the start of a great relationship with Santander?

Defaults don't fall off report until 2016.
TOTAL OUTSTANDING DEBTS CURRENT BALANCES: Allied International - £3359.61, Blair Oliver & Scott - £1394.65, Lloyds TSB - £211.22, Lloyds TSB - £3125.80, Wescot - £966.25
ESTIMATED CCCS DEBT FREE DATE: April 2019. I aim to be debt-free by 2014 at the latest.

They are obviously happy with how you have been running your account and are willing to risk £500 on the chance they'll get more than that back through interest and possibly charges.

I certainly wouldn't try elsewhere until the defaults have fallen off your credit report.

How much is the overdraft - 50 or 500 quid?
  • It was £500.

My long standing Santander current account (previously with Abbey), held jointly with my husband has never appeared on any of my statutory credit reports.

Similarly, no record was shown of an application for their Zero credit card in 2009 (declined, but that's another story).

It seems Santander have their own credit referencing system which doesn't always involve the 3 CRAs .

    Good advice from Hominu ;)
