Tesco car insurance 'mystery' ...

I very rarely come on to this particular part of mse but just wanted to tell others about my dealings with Tesco insurance this morning.
With a pack of muddy, hairy pet dogs to deal with on a day-to-day basis, I run a small van as my general vehicle. I was looking for fully comp, myself the only driver. The Tesco quote for it was £187, significantly less than anyone else was offering. However, when I examined the fine print, the compulsory excess is £475, almost half the value of the vehicle itself.
Now that I realise how they keep their insurance premiums so low (policyholders fund it via the excesses) I shall be returning to an AA arranged provider. The policy they offered me is £235, fully comp, for both hubby and me, with an excess of £200.
No competitition although on first glance, the Tesco quote was a much better deal. Perhaps it's just me being naive but I can't make the figures tally up since two named drivers might logically mean the vehicle is doing twice the mileage that only one driver could achieve = twice the likelihood of a prang? Maybe I am being thick but I can't make the numbers tally! Can anyone else?
