ONE-TEL Rip off

Today I saw an ad for Onetel line rental guaranteed to be cheaper than BT.
I question this.
I pay BT £31.49 a quarter that's about £10.50 a month but with BT I can use a router or dial a prefix to go through other providers
For onetel's £9.99 offer they will block prefixes or routers so in fact for saving only £0.51 a month you'd be sacrificing cheaper calls through other providers
Therefore their guaranteed cheaper line rental offer doesn't stand up.
One could even go as far as saying that this amounts to false advertising
Note BT is £31.49/quartwrly when paying by direct debit
Onetel id £9.99/monthly whichever way you pay

I think OneTel's claim is correct.

You're talking about using other providers (like Call18866, etc) as well as BT. If you think about it I believe they are cheaper than BT if (and only if) you used BT (ie without the other providers like Call18866, TalkTalk, etc) on its own.

So from what I can see they are cheaper than BT on most things. One notable difference are 0845/0870 they are slightly higher but in all fairness most other telephone companies charge higher for 0845/0870 than BT do. TalkTalk for instance charge 4.5ppm for 0845 calls daytime, its only 3.60ppm on OneTel's.

The cheapest option for us consumers is using BT along with OneTel's evening/weekend calls for free, and Call18866 for daytime calls.

Sure, costs savings are important but what about the quality of the service.
I've persevered with Onetel for several months as I thought I would be saving over using BT. The line quality is very poor, crossed lines are common, calls appear on the bill from up to 4 months earlier. Try getting any sense from Customer 'Service' in India!!! What a joke. Pre-programmed robots reading from a script telling you how sorry they are but NEVER actually listening or taking any action that might lead to customer satisfaction. I'm looking elsewhere hence my visit here. Sving a few quid is great but at what expense?

Has anyone else using OneTel suffered from very poor or crossed lines?

    No.

I was with 'em for years using the 1877 prefix and switched to CPS with them back in August last year.

I agree Customer Services is a joke but line quality's not a problem and I've never had a crossed line.
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

Thanks for that. We're currently using Call18866 for everything until this Monday when the free evening/weekend calls (via CPS) will be active so was bit worried about the line quality for a moment. I agree their customer services is a joke but hoping will not have much need to call them.

MoneySavers Note: If you haven't already noticed but OneTel's geographical customer services number is published widely on their website therefore it would be cheaper to call that than the 0845.

Thanks. That number isn't even listed on their website!
