JSA sign on at any office?

I am currently signing on to JSA.
My local office is due to close soon and my claim moved to a centralised office that is approx 6 miles away from my home (bus or train journey).
There is another office approx 1 mile away (20 min walk).
I have heard (from a reliable source that has to remain anonymous) that signers can present themselves at any office to sign, that legislation does not specify what office an individual has to attend.
Obviously, i wish to sign at the nearer office.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks

Surely you would need to have an appointment at that office though, I mean, you couldn't just walk in to a Government agency and expect to be seen.
They treat people who frequent those buildings like the scum of the earth already, landing on them to sign on because it suits you would give them the impetus to treat you even worse!0 -
You can "request" to sign on at any office once you have had you're initial WFI (work focused interview) but this has to be agreed when you have it.0

Hi
Your postcode determines the office that you should sign on at.
There is however nothing in legislation to make you claim at a particular office just because of your postcode. It's just a procedural tool to balance out the people who sign on.
You are at liberty to request that your claim is taken at any office you choose.

Once your claim is taken, you can only sign at another office under the ES90 procedures - ie an office outside of your normal area and for a particular reason.0 -
thanks for the info ukdickie31.
i wanted to have some regulations that i could quote in case i recieved a negative response form jobcentre.
ive googled es90 & got the relevant document.

A ES90 can only be used to sign at another office on a temporary basis if you are visiting another area to seek employment. If you want to sign permanently at a different office to the one you are designated to, you need to ask the office you want to sign at to transfer your claim.0
