  • Best of luck and good for you for not simply paying out, the job should be simple enough but you might need to get some torx/hex sockets if you don't already own them depending on what holds the calipers in place.

You might also need to find two bolts to put through the pre threaded holes in the disc hub face in order to force the old disc off, you might also need an impact driver to get the screw out that nips the old disc to the hub.

Still worth it though as you'll need these tools again...with such tools don't buy cheap and nasty.

Remember to clean the hub face impeccably before fitting the new discs and clean the friction surfaces with proper brake cleaner or petrol, they may have been grease coated at the factory.

The parts price you quote is extremely low, too low IMO, have you bought from a proper reputable source where fake parts are most unlikely?

these tasks can be daunting at first. When i did my oil change I bought ramps and everything. Getting underneath the car was scary. Also seized bolts can be be disheartening at first. the sump plug was shut hard, I had to retry again using a breaker bar with a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter.

I haven't tried changing the rotar or pads yet, but from the copious amounts of youtube videos I've watched it can take a while for your first time because it will take some time to feel your way around it. It's just time consuming I guess - lots of seized joints around that area and repetitive.

what brand of brake pads & disc were they???

they seem really cheap, never buy cheap ones remember if you need them to stop quickly cheap ones might not be as effective.

I'm sorry to rain on your parade, but this is too important a job to do without supervision. As it's such a bread and butter job and your asking for a step by step, I sincerely hope your tools are up to the job and that your prepared (on a well supported car) for the hammering and sometimes cutting, that some stubborn discs need to get off. Get a knowledgeable mate to look over your shoulder at least if your doing this for the first time.

Was it Crapfit that told you they need replacing?

I was getting brake pad wear advisory on the MOT for 3 years, I kept a very close eye on the disc wear (by eye and with a digital Vernier), but finally replaced the whole lot (pads+discs on all four corners) when the pad wear light came on around 35'000 - 40'000 miles after the first advisory.

I didn't do them myself as the wheels had been done up so tight that I bent my wheel nut wrench into a curly shape just trying to get the nuts off.

Crapfit love to scaremonger people into replacing the brakes, often at unreasonable cost.
