I think (the UK branch of ) the relatives bank has closed its NatWest collection account but the OP has still deposited funds into NatWest.

May be- but question remains - -- why did Natwest close the account?

Seems a pointless question, I doubt if we'll ever find out, I can't see any circumstance in which NatWest would tell a customer why it has closed an account held by somebody else.

Naturally Natwest wouldn't tell the OP why his relative's account was closed. However, the relative may know. And the OP may know, too. The reason for the closure may well explain why the OP won't get any money back.

But as has been said several times already, we don't think it is the relative's account that has been closed, it appears to be the foreign bank's collection account at NatWest.

perhaps the OP's relative badmouthed the bank staff ?
