Claiming PPI

Hi
First time poster. But have followed advice on this site many times before
Took on the council tax. But lost
Took on bank charges and won and now PPI
Here's the story. A while back I transferred a few balances onto my barclaycard online. The first statement arrived and I noticed there was PPI added to it
Now I didn't tick a box for this and didn't see a box online that referred to it so I phoned them and lodged a complaint about it being mis sold and said I wanted it refunded. It was about £40 ish
A few weeks went by and I had a letter saying it was being investigated. I though nothing of it and left it there
Now I am one of those that never took PPI on any credit cards or loans or at least not to my knowledge
Imagine my surprise then when I had a letter come through offering me just over £1000 in repayment for mis Sold PPI
I accepted the offer( some of you may say never accept the first offer. But hey some one has just offered my £1000)
It has now got me to thinking about other cards and whether PPI was added without my knowledge (I even had an Egg card so chances are good)
To my knowledge I don't have any statements from far back as I tend to shread everything and especially for accounts I no longer have
So what is the best way to have a go at the other banks. Is it always this easy or have I been amazingly lucky with Barclaycard
All advice greatly recieved

If you want to "have a go" at the other Banks you'll need to send all the likely candidates a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter. As these cost £10 each, this could prove expensive so do be reasonably sure you may have had PPI before embarking.Scoobystig wrote: »So what is the best way to have a go at the other banks.

I do think you had a stroke of luck with Barclaycard as they obviously found evidence of mis-sale ( or provided a "goodwill" autopayment) even though you didn't really complain of any.
Good luck.0 -
Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a similar question.
My husband had a Barclaycard, and a Providian credit card around the years 2002 - 2007 -ish.
They are both paid off.
We no longer have any statements, but do have both account numbers.
I'm not 100% he had PPI, but i'm pretty sure he did.
If I send for a SAR, will they send me all the credit card statements for the life of the card?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -
No, they'll simply send you anything and everything they've kept on file for your husband for at least the last six years and (sometimes) more.If I send for a SAR, will they send me all the credit card statements for the life of the card?
Why not save yourself a tenner and just ask the Bank directly if there was PPI attached to these accounts?0 -
Hi, I have PPI to reclaim on an old Alliance & Leicester account. Does anyone have the contact details for them?? I also understand that they were taken over by Santander.
Many thanks.0 -

Would I need to do this in writing?
Providian credit card (I think) were bought by Barclaycard, would I have to contact them?
What if they (say they) don't have anything beyond 6 years? (the cards were obtained approx 2002).I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -
No, I meant contact them directly in the first instance.Would I need to do this in writing?
I have already posted all the details of what to do in answer to the originator of this thread. See post #2
If your SAR letter turns up no details of your finance then any complaint is basically over unless you can find documentary evidence in your own archive.0 -
Thanks for your help.I Hate Jobsworths!!!0
