recurring payments

Can anyone tell me is this correct:

My ex set up an experia account for me but will not tell me the password to cancel the payment. Santander have told me either I have to contact experia or cancel my debit card before it can stop the payment coming out. I would be completely lost for 7 days without my card, can they really not block it?

No - cancelling the card will not stop the payment.

Santander should be able to cancel a recurring payment - try again and speak to a manager if necessary.

Or phone up Experian and let them know you have forgotten the password (and no longer have access to the registered email address).
