confused

Recently I rang Halifax to double check About whether I would be eligible for the reward saver current account. 2 direct debits and payments going in ( not necessarily salary) to receive the £100 bonus and 6 months 0% overdraft. I was told that I was still eligible.

I went in my local branch today to discover that the only way to receive the £100 bonus was to have a salary going in as well as the 2 direct debits etc. I said it wouldn't be salary going in but another means of income from a savings account. The clerk said I wouldn't qualify for the £100 but could still open an account.

I'm confused as to whose right. I know I have asked a few questions on here about this and a few people have said you can still open an account and qualify for the £100 without salary so I'm still unsure. The clerk said the payment into the account needs to be a BACS payment, whereas my money being transferred from savings to the current account would just be a normal transfer.

Any suggestions

Thanks

What do the T&Cs say? Last time I checked (a little while ago) there was nothing in the T&Cs about a BACS payment. If there still is not, you could challenge them. Though in the end, it's up to them whether they want to give you £100.

BACS payments are slowly going out of fashion, even the company I work for issued a statement earlier in the year stating that all future payments would be faster payments rather than the previous BACS Direct Credit that they used to use. I remember the vast complaints they got from employees as they started getting paid by the end of the date stated on the pay cheque rather than 2 days before that happened with BACS.

I think more likely that if they are being picky, they'll be looking for a company name in the 'reference' field rather than your own name, but they'll have to do this manually, and so unlikely to do it on every account.
