How to organise a a Craft Fair/Table Top Sale

I am looking at holding a Craft Fair/Handmade/Table Top Sale to fundraise for a charity very close to my heart called MND Association.

Can anyone give me any tips on making it successful and anything i NEED to know?

TIA

  • You could post an advert in your local newspaper. I'm not sure how expensive this might be but if you say it's for charity, you could possibly get a discount, maybe even for free.

You'll need to check to see if the venue you're going to use covers liability insurance or if you have to.

How do you propose to actually make money? Hire a venue and sell pitches/tables, or sell items from a pitch/table (usually a combination of both works). Try to get a mix of stallholders - try adverts in local craft organisations etc.

Hold a raffle on the day. Provide refreshments.

    As above, check insurance requirements.

You need to think about your USP then. What will get people over the threshold? How will you guarantee that you will at least cover the fixed costs? (I assume that this is what you've based the £10 pitch fee on. You need to find out whether this is about the going rate for the area. Down here, a village hall sale pitch would usually be about £5/6 but a farmers market or similar could be £10-15).

If there's anything for the kids, you'll be more likely to get their parents. Having say, a central table where the kids can sit and make a card or do some colouring or whatever for a token amount usually means the parents can browse. At Christmas, make it a gift wrapping area.

Give away a free mystery (donated beforehand) gift or a balloon animal, or... you get my drift. Recruit some volunteers...
