Choosing a shower....style v substance?

We're installing a bathroom this summer. I am meant to be choosing shower stuff that everyone will agree with.

The accepted thing discussed has been an overhead 'rain' thing from the ceiling and a handheld unit from the wall at low level for higher pressure rinsing.

So something like the second picture here:

Is this going to look beautiful but be ineffective? We have 3.5 bar pressure

And have seen this. (None of the below are as stylish as above but are cheaper,)

And this

Or a little bigger this http://www.tapso.co.uk/shower-heads/2675-16-inch-stainless-steel-shower-head-with-color-changing-led-light-hs16f.html

The site does say not to consider with low pressure. But what is low pressure for this purpose?

Will it simply be too ineffective for words, and we'll end up effectively showering by the handheld unit alone?

I also want a waterfall tap for the same bathroom and they say the same...not to consider with low pressure...

  • Hi
Can you tell us what water system you intend to feed the shower head with? is it a combination boiler or unvented cylinder? ideally you could also do with knowing what kind of flow rate you have in the bathroom?

Thank you so much for answering :)

Gosh...well, we don't have a boiler ATM but likely to be ASHO so I'm guessing that means It will be a cylinder? There is no bathroom yet, so no flow rate to measure:o.

The flow rate is more critical to the operation of the shower head than the pressure. In order to achieve optimum performance from a large fixed shower head you should be aiming for approximately 18 litres per minute + as a minimum, in addition to that depending how long you intend to stay under the shower you will need a cylinder that can supply enough hot water to feed the demand.

If you are looking for an alternative that is slightly less water intensive you may wish to consider something like this http://www.truerooms.com/PP/VA-WGINGOT.html I am however very aware bathrooms are a personal thing and it may not be to your taste

Part of the idea is that when . Dh and I shower together then one of us won't be cold and waiting for a turn at some water :D

I think the plumber might have mentioned a lower flow rate than that to the kitchen so that doesn't sound promising. I'll check with him.

Just want to thank plumbers shop lee again. We have decided to go with a model very like the one he recommended. It was not even on the table before and I thought my husband would hate it!
  • No problem at my pleasure hope you both enjoy it.
