PCN - Tesco carpark

Am going round in circles and getting very confused. Am hoping someone can sort my little brain out and help.

My son has received a PCN from Highview - which we initially ignored as per advice on several sites. He has now received a 2nd notice where the sum has gone up from the original £40 and although I was all up for ignoring Im now wondering if this isnt such a good idea. Can anyone help?? Is it too late to challenge. To be fair though he was parked well over the time allowed and Im not sure how we would word anything. I just get angry as I cant believe Tesco would have lost any money that day by him parking there and he would have gone in there for his lunch and spent money anyway.

Any help (in laymans terms please) would be gratefully received.:)

In Layman's terms, just keep on ignoring it.

    That's it.

    Ignore, ignore, ignore.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

You hit the nail on the head, there is no loss to the parking company, or tesco as he shopped there, even if its just for lunch. So if there is no loss it can only be an unlawful penalty. This will not go to court ever, because IMO I don't think tesco allows highview to initiate a claim in court in their contract. And even if they did it can be defended against.

A few things, was your son under 18 when this parking incident happened? Is he the registered keeper ? Is this in England or Wales ?

By the way the current advice would have been to challenge when the first letter arrived - so next time make sure you all know that. IGNORE IS OLD ADVICE.

However, as you've missed the boat to challenge it, he has little choice but to ignore it now (like the good old days before POPLA, ignoring the debt collector letters). The time to appeal has gone so he is in 'ignore mode' (been there done that and it's fun, and Highview do not do court so it's only junk mail). He can see the sort of letters to ignore by looking at the 'PPC letter chains' sticky thread and clicking on the OLD pre-October link there which has most of the pics of the letters these PPCs use even now.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I am at work so must get back to real stuff but as I said, you will see the number of typical letters shown on the OLD 'pre Oct 2012' link on the 'PPC letter chains' sticky thread at the top(ish) of this forum.

Highview have just infested our local Tesco, they are just another scumbag PPC that are only after your money.
They are also very stupid, the car park near us is quite large and has about five signs in it one of which at the entrance has been put up behind a another sign so you cannot see it. All the others are too high to read.
Like all the others they are an amateur bunch of lowlifes making money out of misery.
You will not get anywhere now by contacting them, you have missed the boat for their joke appeals scam, and POPLA where you could have won and cost them money.
Just stay steadfast with their scaremongering letters and ignore.

Thanks fisherjim - am going to advise son to just ignore all correspondence. When you get to my age these things are just really an annoyance, but when your just starting out in life and get these 'invoices' disguised as fines it can be quite intimidating. Mind you I say all this but he has yet to realise that he has actually had the 2nd letter !!! Like I say most of his post gets ignored unless it looks like its from a bank or the HMRC..... lol Thanks for all your help.
