Georgiegirl I didn't bother with the flannel cakes in the end, we bought everyone a meal a dessert if they wanted and a drink or two :D

It was lovely not to have to 'entertain' people all day and night tbh. Evening do's are a modern thing as well, go back to the 70's and people didn't really bother.

I know exactly what you mean about not abing to 'entertain' people, and you're right, people never used to really have evening do's either. My parents got married in the 70's, and after their meal, some people just went back to my grandparents house for abit and that was that!

I was thinking of maybe making up little goodie bags for the Mam's, but then that would leave my Dad out?

Are you paying for your guests? If not, its a cheap wedding for you and a very expensive one for them!
It would be if all our guests were British - however as OH has a massive family and I have literally none bar my son -we wanted a "just us" ceremony.

His parents can't fly and Vegas is no place for his grandkids -so they are happy to watch it on the internet feed. His birth mother simply grumbled that all her kids married abroad and she'll never see any of them get married. (I told her she was welcome to come but as he only met her for the first time a few months ago we wouldn't be offering to pay for her anyway-it's a slowly blossoming relationship). It also means we won't have to have his family meeting his birth mother and half siblings for the first time at our wedding which is what would happen if we got married at home.

However my son wants to give me away (been trying to for years) and best friend has been dying for an excuse to go back to Vegas. Both want to pay for their own -but I suspect we'll pay their hotel, and tux for son at the very least. Hotel rooms will be reduced or comped anyway though.

Anyone else is driving in (I have a lot of American friends ) but it's meant to be small and intimate not a huge bash (we've both been married before and neither of us see the wedding day as a big splash - more about the ceremony) Neither of us want a lot of fuss-just an intimate ceremony at sunset outdoors (imagine planning THAT in Britain -it'd be bound to rain LOL)

I bought my bridesmaid dresses on eBay from China, yes I know! I was very dubious to begin with but thought it was worth a risk and I'm so glad I did! They worked out about £17 each! I waited for the sales in places like bhs and some bits were from Matalan, including my ne'er wear and the pageboy's outfit.

Stationary-wise, some of it we had made, but once we knew what we had and wanted, I made a lot of it myself. The favours I did myself, we had cadburys dairy milk (the really little ones) wrapped in netting with some ribbon, took a couple of hours but looked brilliant!

Cars.. Find someone with a nice car and put some ribbon on it!

Be tight on the food and drink. People will buy their own drinks if they want, the blokes will want beer, so it's pointless buying loads of wine or champagne! Food-wise, we scrimped and still had quite a bit left which we gave to our student friends to take home lol!

Cake - go to a supermarket!

Photographers - perhaps go to a local college and see if they have any students there who ned to build up their portfolio. Would make them very cheap. Obviously check they're good first lol.

Good luck and enjoy every second as it will fly by!
Married my wonderful husband on 8/9/12 :j
