Plumber ripped me off :(

Options
Plumber quoted for a boiler repair at my sons that required a new part and two plumbers to assist as the boiler needed to be removed to do it.

Agreed price, two plumbers arrived and I paid them in cash for the job. Both plumbers who worked on it are registered with gas safe. First plumber had done other jobs previously so had no reason to think anything was wrong.

Boiler when used was no different to before repair and I had it looked at by someone else for a second opinion. They told me that the part hadn't been changed and even if it had, it wasnt a two plumber job.

Contacted the plumber who quoted originally who admitted that they had just cleaned the part and promised to come back and look at it again.

Needless to say he hasn't been (easter). He has read my messages and not replying. I have some texts stating what he was doing and for what price but as I paid cash can't prove the payment. He also promised receipts which he didnt give.

Is it worth going to court? Should I report him to gas safe?

If you've paid him to replace the part, and he's not done so, he is in breach of contract. How much did you pay him?

Not having a receipt isn't the end game! All you have to do is persuade a judge based on the balance of probabilities that you paid - which if you provide a time line and text evidence the work was undertaken then this would very easily be done.

I'd definitely send a letter before action giving them 14 days to come and fix the boiler at a time convenient to you. If they don't comply, then send another letter giving them 14 days to issue a full refund before you take court action.

That way, you've given them both a chance to fix it, then a chance to refund.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
