I use an Epson 1290 A4 printer that's about 12 years old and was top of the range in photo printing in its day.
I've never put an Epson-brand cartridge in it other than the ones supplied when the machine was new. I've always used compatibles.
The printer is still going strong. The only thing I notice is that some cartridges do give better results than others. The main difference is that the printed colours fade faster with the very cheap ones. I also suspect that photos printed with genuine Epson cartridges would keep their colours truer for longer than the mid-price ones I use.
Having said that, most printing is only for the moment and the picture gets discarded or forgotten in quite a short time. If the photo is one that you treasure and put into a frame, album or box under the bed, you can always reprint it again to revitalise it when it fades.
Even when you have done that many times, you are still showing an enormous saving over a single print from a manufacturer's own brand cartridge.0 -
