Thank you everyone for your input (interesting to see that someones divorce can cause total strangers to argue more than an estranged couple! lol).

Anyway this is no longer an issue as I have found a new place to live.

I would appreciate advice on what I need to write to the letting agents now, but think I will start a new thread so's not to muddy everything.

(BTW we have been in this house for nearly 10 years and are now on a rolling contract, as at the last renewal date they did not send corrected paperwork for us to sign - they had gotten the guarantors details wrong and other details).

My past experience of private rental is that people can have new co tenants. A house I lived in years ago did so, one person moved out and others were needed. Shared house. The landlord simply arranged for a new tenancy with us and the new tenant as joint tenants. The new tenants were not our lodgers, they were co tenants.

I now live in a housing association flat and my tenancy says I can let someone else live here.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
