Would this be legal? car insurance

My car insurance renewal has arrived....in all probability I would stay with the company, but having done comparisons to join them as a "new customer" it would quite a lot cheaper than the renewal quote.
Can I legally join them as a new customer? (thereby saving myself about £30), or do I
a) have to accept their renewal price?
or
b) go to another company altogether?

If you contact them and tell them about the quote you have they will in all probability match or better it.
If not instruct them to lapse the policy on its expiry date and either take up the quote you have for a new policy or go elsewhere if you find a better deal.0 -
Some quotes will exclude existing members.
But as above a quick call saying its cheaper online and they usually match it. Even with a sister company.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
As long as you read all the terms and make sure you comply - no problem. I have done so several times. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Unless their T&Cs/ assumptions exclude existing customers then you can rebuy and most insurers that do "exclude" more commonly either (a) refuse to quote as they recognise you or (b) quote but present the renewal price
Phone them up and they will almost certainly pricematch themselves and if not advise them you want the policy to lapse.
I'm a little surprised you have only saved 30 quid though, have you actually shopped around yet? I've never saved less than a hundred or two between renewal price and best price in all my years of car insurance buying.0 -
Saga for instance will say your already a customer see your renewal.
They sneak the prices up hoping you old and senile it seems.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
