HELP!! Dell Flat Screen Monitor dies after 2 seconds

HELP. My Dell Flat Screen Monitor works for about 2 seconds before going blank! When I switch the monitor button off and on again you can see your desktop page for 2 seconds before it goes blank again.
Is it only worthy of being dumped? Or is this fixable?
Can anyone please advise?

When it goes blank, what happens if you pull the vga cable out of the back? Do you get a no signal type of message?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I get the small block of stripe colours and it has some text at the very top but the screen goes off again so I can't read it0
