Does Combi Boiler Still Use Gas When Set to OFF.

We have a 1 year old Vaillant Eco Tech combi boiler and have found that generally, it uses as much gas as our old boiler. When we were going to be away for 17 days recently, we decided to set the Honeywell wireless remote control to the OFF setting, in the belief that if the boiler was off it wouldn't use any gas. I took a reading just before we left the house and again as we returned and found that somehow, 38kw/h of gas had been consumed. We just cannot work out how this can be.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Read your boiler manual. See if it has a reservoir of water which is kept warm, to make hot water come out faster.0

Thanks for that. It does have a "warm start" feature that keeps the water at a set temp. This can be switched off, but it's too much bother as the boiler is in the loft.
