PPI letters sent off - Next Step?

Hello to you all,

I recently received a letter from Nationwide advising I may have been mis-sold PPI. I sent the reply back asking them to investigate and to my surprise they told me I will be receiving a payment of £500 soon.

So, after this pleasant surprise I sent off for a copy of my credit report and this morning I have sent off letters and questionnaires (FOS ones) asking 6 companies to look into whether I have been mis-sold PPI by them too.

The companies involved are:

HSBC
Barclaycard
Bank of Ireland
Sygma/Creation
CitiFinancial
Capital One

So, my query is this - I have sent these letters off to these other companies asking them to investigate this for me but I was only able to supply them with the dates the accounts were opened and closed. (I no longer have any of the old statements).

Is this enough information for these companies to go on or is it very probably I will be prompted for more information?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

creditcardnewbie

No, they will want the account numbers of whatever you're complaining about. If any of the accounts are still open, you migth be ok, but if they are closed, be prepared to do some more work.

Many thanks for your response -taff,

Yes, the accounts are all closed unfortunately. I had an idea there may be more work to do.

Ah well, at least the ball is rolling I suppose.

    Many thanks again,

I'm afraid you're very likely to simply receive letters in response which state that the Bank finds no evidence of any wrong doing or no evidence of you even having PPI.If you want a successful complaint you'll have to do a bit of research to establish

    (a)Whether you actually had PPI.
    (b) The details of the account (including any documentation if the accounts are historical)
    (c) Under what circumstances you feel it was mis-sold to you.

You cannot simply request the Bank to investigate, you have to have a valid complaint.

    Hi Moneyineptitude,

To be honest I don't 'think' I ever took PPI out on any product I had in the past but I was so shocked to hear Nationwide telling me I did. This is why I am now pursuing this with my other accounts.

I was looking for the banks to investigate but yes, I now feel more legwork will have to be done.

    Many thanks for your reply,
