DVD player acting up - Toshiba SD-330E

Hi all,
Wonder if anyone can help, we have a DVD player (Toshiba SD-330E) which is roughly 3 or 4 years old.
Recently it has been acting up - around a third of the way through a movie the image gets slightly solarised and pixelates a bit. Fast forwarding doesn't improve it, nor does trying another DVD.
It cost us around £80 4 years ago, we were going to buy a DVD cleaner but as they cost £15 just to 'see' if that fixes the problem, are we better off buying a new dvd player? Any other ideas that we could try?
If it comes down to buying a new one, we are concerned that the 'latest' technology seems to be Blu-Ray and that it will cost lots to buy one of those, and hard to know if it's safe to buy as the technology is so new...
If not we are happy to buy a cheapie DVD player or even a recorder - your help and suggestions are much appreciated

Did you try in another TV? If the picture was skipping or something, I'd blame a dirty laser. But your description of the problem makes me think the TV might be at fault.
BTW, I have a region free SD-330E that I eventually gave to my parents, great DVD player.0 -
Hi Cricri - this is a brand new tv, and th eimage problem only happens on dvd's, not on the normal television programmes, so we know it's the dvd player...MFW #185

Be better off getting a new DVD player, the price they are today, start from 17.99. Plus buying a cleaning kit may not solve the problem. If your new tv has HDMI go for one with that on it.
The DVD recorder also are getting cheaper an cheaper. 69.99Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
Thanks neilwoods, will prob have to look about! new TV does have HDMI. It's just a question of whether to go for normal dvd player, dvd recorder, or something Blu-Ray...MFW #185
