Dyson hose

My 2nd hose has just split. Only a small tear, just below where it joins the extension pole.

Anyone know if one can disconnect the hose, cut off the top torn few inches and re-connect.

And if so, how?

I bought a new one here rather than trying to repair it.

It works great and is good quality. £9.29 including delivery.

I have in the past used a strong clear tape to seal the tear. It does seem as though Dyson hoses are prone to tearing at the ends.

It looks as though the fittings do come off the ends on most Dyson hoses if you push 2 recessed tabs in with a screwdriver or similar. I did consider cutting off the torn hose and reterminating but never got round to it before selling the Dyson for spares!

:(Had same problem several times and found ebay replacements cheap and nasty even when stated as genuine Dyson;)

The ends are actually threaded onto the reinforced plastic tube, with a left hand thread created by the tube reinforcing, BUT, they dont last long even when repaired:(

Cheapest way is to get rid of the Dyson for a cheaper cleaner, some just as good on the market, AND you'll probably be able to buy 4 of them for the cost of a Dyson;)

Back from holiday so looking again at cleaners. Taking advice and going to buy new. The Henry or Hendry is recommended by many people but looking at it is has a bag and I have had so many years with bagless am wondering. Is it a frequent job or will it taking a reasonable amount of use before needing to empty.
Friend who has a Panasonic upright not very old but tells me it is now tracking on her carpet and she is going to buy a new one. Wondering if the setting has somehow or other changed and this might be causing. She has very limited eye sight but is also elderly . Any advice would be appreciated. She says she will buy what ever I buy ! I have always had an upright and also wondering how heavy this Henry is? The Dyson is heavy but then I can just wheel it along. My SIL is supposed to cut the flex and put a new plug but I am still waiting for him to try it. Thanks to all the people on there forums who give their time information and advice to folks like myself

The new Vax upright vacuum cleaners are good value for money compared to the Dysons. They are bag-less too, long warranty and seem to maintain suction even when full. The only problem on some models is that the cord can be a little short.

Have a look at the Vax Air range - they also have ones that can bend so go under furniture. Similar to the Dyson ball vacuums.

I think some larger Currys stores let you try them out with some dirt on a mock-up home floor.

I gaffer-taped mine (make sure it's pushed into the convolutions of the hose). If it's good enough for Apollo-13, it'll do for my carpet :)
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
