No, you can't. Married or not, they are family.0

The whole point of references is to have an independent view of someone outside of family (that does normally exclude friends as well).
This often means previous employers, but if you haven't been in employment before, a college lecturer, school teacher, shop owner if you did a paper round, or other employer if you had an afterschool job.0 -
My DD always uses my partner. We don't live together so he has a different address, and he's known her for six years!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

An application my bf is filling in specifies no relatives or relatives through marriage. Now although we're not married, I did take that to include people like my mum as we are living as a married couple and that little bit of paper don't make a blind bit of difference these days.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

If I'm checking a reference I always ask the person how they know the applicant, so you will be rumbled. I'd take a dim view of this tbh0

When giving references its always better to use someone who can give you a genuine reference. I work for a council where there is anew policy of ringing up the person who gave the reference to check details.
Is there someone you have worked for - even on voluntary basis or for a short time - who can give you good reference.
If you have recently left school or college you can use a teacher
As someone who carries out interviews I would not be impressed if i found out a reference was not a genuine one from an employer, teacher or an independent person. Dont forget a job offer can be taken back if your references do not check out!                 :dance:I am finally understanding what money can do for me!0 -

Write your own.
On a personal level, me and my best mate have been providing references for each other for years, and it has always worked, even when phoned including the time he didnt pre-warn me and I had to blag it. A lot of employers dont check references properly.
As someone who also interviews, I dont particularly care about references, ability, attitude and talent, is more important to me. I find CVs and references to be just filler.0 -

I think it depends what jobs you interview for. I'm sure in a lot of jobs it may not matter but i work in child care and cannot afford to employ people to work with young children, if they don't have a proven record at college or in a job. During interviews people tell you what you want to hear regarding ability, attitude and talent, so interviews and references are only a safety net and make no guarantees but at least together they give me a starting point.
At the end of the day I am sure there are other people who fake references and if you dont care then fake away.                 :dance:I am finally understanding what money can do for me!0 -
No.
Employers generally ask how they know the appicant and it speaks volumes if the only people you can get to talk about you positively are those you are connected to via family.0
