Moving a Domain to different company

I know what you are going through OP, I get several like this a week, it is against ICANN & Nomienet rule to charge a fee for moving, unless you owe them money?
You will also find these smaller companies end up charging an arm and leg for additional services. So you are better finding a teir 1 company to go to. When you look to move make sure they are teir 1 and not some UK t2 firm that does not have access to the registry, cost based SSL and Rackspace of their own.0 -
Thanks for all the replies.
I agree the cost to renew isn't much, but for this cost I cannot easily update the website as changes can only be made over a Freeola connection. I do not wish to pay the £3 a month for VIP hosting just so I can edit the website.
A small fee I could live with, but £36 just so I can change 10 words on my homepage seems a bit much!Brassedoff wrote: »I know what you are going through OP, I get several like this a week, it is against ICANN & Nomienet rule to charge a fee for moving, unless you owe them money?
That's interesting, do you have the references for this as I can't find anything on it.0 -

Well spend a tenner and move it :cool:0 -
Since its been pointed out they shouldn't charge ill challenge them on this & see what they say0

They may not be in the right to charge for the release code for the movement of the domain registration, however they could charge for anything beyond that - remember you'll have to sort out your own hosting, email and DNS entries from here. Whoever you move to may help with the DNS if you move your hosting to them (but remember that hosting may not be free, especially on a discount registrar)0

Thanks, Freeola say the fee is what they are charged by Nominet to change the IPS tag & they just pass this onto their customer.0
