Exchange Contracts - Advice

Hi All,
I'll try and be as brief as I can.
In November 12 OH and I viewed a house put in an offer that was accepted
The sellers are moving into a new build retirement complex that we new at the time of putting in the offer may be delayed in it completion (it was already 200 days behind schedule)
we were given a completion date end of Feb, that changed to april then to may then to June.
The last June date fell outside of our mortgage offer so we had to reapply (annoying but fine). Now the development is ready for our sellers to move into everyone is waiting for us.
We got the 2nd mortgage approval last Wednesday morning the details were faxed to our solicitor Wednesday 330pm who confirmed receipt.
He told me Wednesday that the secretary needs to type up the documents for us to sign and pay the deposit and that he needs to wait for the postal copy anyway (annoying and pointless but fine). Friday afternoon I called for an update to find that he had the day off and that the documents still aren't ready for us but yes that have the posted mortgage paperwork.
now its been so long since we appointed the solicitor in November that all the searches etc MUST/SHOULD have been done by now.
Is it reasonable for me to call the solicitor this morning and ask for the exchange documents to be ready for 4pm this afternoon for us to sign and pay our deposit?
It will have been 3 whole working days by then.....
I work in a office so I know about paperwork backlogs people on holiday etc. BUT he didn't tell me he was not going to be in he has fobbed us off for the last week telling a lie everytime we call instead of just being straight with us and if im honest Im really annoyed now.
We are renovating the house before we move in so a few more days makes no difference to us but the sellers who are in their 90s (friend of friends) have stopped driving and are desperately waiting to move as one of them in in ill health and has to keep navigating the stairs etc etc...
am I reasonable to expect the documents to be done timely?

im surprised they werent done already. Nothing needs to change on the exchange documents anyway.
I assume your offer is still the same amount?
Its a very long wait, must be a good property0 -

When we put the offer in we knew there would be a longer than normal delay as the builders of the complex that our sellers were moving into were already behind in their development. This suited us because im on maternity leave so a letr completion meant closer to me going back to work.
nothing has changed since we put the offer in the purchase amount/deposit is still the same
its a lovely house :-)
the only thing that has changed is the expected completion date.
the solicitor keeps fobbing us off. we had to reapply for our mortgage because it took so long for the builders to finish the development that our deal expired. we finally got our new mortgage wednesday and asked them to fax the information to our solicitor which they said they couldnt do unless he requested it.
we asked him to do this and he said he would - he didnt.
so we managed to persude them to do it anyway - which they did the same day (wednesday 1515)
solicitor confirmed receipt, i then called thursday to find out if we could sign contract and pay deposit he said it wasnt ready his secretary hadnt done it BUT not to worry as he needs to wait for the posted mortgage offer as as soon as the mortgage comes through in the post we would be good to go.
The mortgage then arrived with him (and us friday) I called friday to check if the contract would be ready friday to be told that he was on holiday...now fine everyone has holiday but why didnt he tell me that he wasnt going to be in so nothing would be done until monday
I dont mind delay - but i just want to be told the truth as at the moment, im getting calls from the estate agent daily too and cant give any information because i havent got any....
its depressing0
